Have you heard? There's a vaccine for HPV?
In June of 2006, The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the approval of Gardasil, the first vaccine developed to prevent cervical cancer, precancerous genital lesions and some types of genital warts due to human papillomavirus (HPV).
Soon after, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) issued recommendations for females 13-26 years of age.
While Planned Parenthood of South Texas does not offer the Gardasil vaccine, we do want to make sure everyone has access to important information and resources about the virus, about prevention, and about the vaccine.
- See the CDC recommendations.
- For more information on the HPV vaccine and cervical cancer, check out the American Social Health Association's FAQ sheet.
- To schedule an appointment for your STD screening, or to talk to a qualified health professional, just call our clinics.
